For many years we were a ministry of One Hope Canada (www.onehopecanada.ca.) based in Winnipeg. We are now transitioning to the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada, although as mentioned on the Home Page, we will continue to operate as an independent community church in the Longview community. It is important to us that Christians who don’t identify as Baptists feel completely at home in our services.
We pray. Members of the congregation can make requests that we pray for specific issues that are a concern to them, and often individuals offer brief prayers. Not everyone does!
The sermon is based on Scripture and usually lasts about half an hour.
At the end of the service we provide coffee and light snacks for anyone who wishes to stay. This gives us the chance to get to know each other a bit better.
Our service on Sunday at 11:00 am is traditional. We think you would feel comfortable worshipping with us. We sing mainly the familiar old hymns - we love their meaningful words and “hummable” melodies.
We don’t want your money
If we visited your home, we doubt that you would make us feel obligated to help you pay the electricity bill.
Well neither would we. So we never take a collection at our worship service.
High Country Ministerial Association
We’re not the only Christians out there! We are an active member of the High Country Ministerial Association, where we are able to set aside denominational differences to address issues of common concern.
Aside from these - mainly social - issues, we have been invited to participate in events at other ministerial churches, as they have in ours. (Go to our Facebook page and see the post dated May 11, 2015)
Pastor Gil & Andrea Kidd
Our pastor couple brings many years of experience to us. Before entering the ministry Pastor Gil was engaged in scientific research in the UK. He then pastored churches in Ontario and Nordegg AB before joining us in 2013.
Andrea is a linguist - New Testament Greek, Hebrew, and Portuguese are her strong areas. She also writes. You may have read her articles in the High Country News, and she makes contributions on this web site - see the “Pastor’s Pen” page.
Whether or not you attend the church, Pastor Gil or Andrea are available to all Longview residents for advice, or just to lend a sympathetic listening ear. You can reach them at 403-797-3982.
